Cimetrix and Kepware Collaborate on GEM/PLC Connections
Leaders in GEM and OPC Standards Bridge the Gap
SALT LAKE CITY, UT - 6 November 2014 - Cimetrix Incorporated (OTCQB: CMXX, www.cimetrix.com), a leading provider of factory automation and equipment control software solutions for the global semiconductor, photovoltaic, LED, and other electronics industries, announced today that the Cimetrix CIMConnectTM SECS/GEM software product is now updated for use with the KEPServerEX® communications platform from Kepware Technologies.
Kepware's KEPServerEX combined with the Cimetrix CIMConnect software allows OEMs to connect their PLC-controlled equipment to SECS/GEM and GEM 300 interfaces via an OPC-compliant interface.
Dave Faulkner, Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Cimetrix, said, "Many of our customers have been looking for a simple, straight-forward way to enable a PLC based equipment controller to have a GEM interface. The KEPServerEX software allows the OEM to use widely available OPC as the data connection to the PLC. Kepware is a world leader in OPC connectivity, which makes the process much easier for our OEMs."
CIMConnect is the leading solution for developing SECS/GEM interfaces. The CIMConnect software toolkit provides libraries, sample applications, testing tools, and GEM Manual template for developing and deploying communication interfaces on manufacturing equipment. The CIMConnect architecture supports both the SEMI SECS/GEM standard and the SEMI PV2 standard, as well as multiple independent host interfaces with a generic communication abstraction layer.
KEPServerEX, Kepware's flagship solution, communicates with diverse automation devices and software applications using a library of more than 150 protocols. The platform supports an array of native vendor interfaces and open standard interfaces, such as OPC.
"We are pleased to work with Cimetrix to develop an end-to-end communications solution for semiconductor and HB-LED manufacturing equipment," stated John Harrington, Director of Product Management at Kepware Technologies. "Our flexible, scalable, industrial strength solutions meet the demands of automation applications in a wide array of industries. By working with Cimetrix, we can support improvements in operations and decision making for precision equipment in these vital, high-tech industries."
The agreement between the companies allows Cimetrix to ship a demonstration copy of KEPServerEX with Cimetrix CIMConnect software. This allows OEMs to quickly set up a GEM interface using a PLC-specific sample application.
